PODIATRY

The MedServ Group’s board-certified podiatrists diagnose and treat injuries and diseases affecting the feet, ankles and lower legs. We work with your medical team to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses both immediate pain and long-term goals.

In Our Doctors’ Words

“When we treat a patient, even for a minor condition like an ingrown toenail, they feel relief. And for us, that’s so rewarding and satisfying. Long-term care residents are not numbers or ‘old people.’ They are real people who need kindness, respect and human connection. We’re proud to give that to them at The MedServ Group.”

--Dr. Jay Bienenfeld, DPM

Podiatry Clinical Director, The MedServ Group

What to Expect from Our Podiatry Service

The MedServ Group’s providers offer examinations and treatment for foot pain and other podiatric conditions. Patients receive comprehensive care, including regular exams and after-hours appointments, to reduce pain, promote mobility and support their overall health.

We use medication and nonsurgical procedures to provide relief from chronic and acute pain, so residents can enjoy a more comfortable, active lifestyle.

Highlights of our program include:

  • Dr. Jay Bienenfeld leads The MedServ Group’s podiatry team of board-certified physicians, nurses and staff. Our providers have extensive experience serving older adults and other residents of long-term care facilities. They also complete ongoing training and education, so they can bring the latest treatments and best practices to patients.

  • The MedServ Group podiatry providers have expertise in the specific health needs of older patients. We often treat residents with conditions, such as diabetes, that affect foot health.

Our providers also understand how to connect with patients who have cognitive decline and are verbal or noncompliant. We know how to assess and diagnose patients even when communication is limited.

  • The MedServ Group’s podiatry providers bring their staff and mobile equipment directly to your residents in the comfort of their own rooms or other preferred locations. We bring everything we need, so your staff can focus on their own tasks.

We diagnose and treat all types of conditions affecting the feet, ankles and lower legs, and we can handle most procedures at your facility. Our team provides all follow-ups and referrals as needed to ensure proper management and continuity of care. We return after-hours calls quickly and provide 24/7 coverage for emergencies.

We can also consult our other specialists at The MedServ Group, as necessary--for example, working with dermatologists to treat cracked heels and dry skin.

  • Our providers take a holistic approach to patient care, based on each resident’s medical history and related conditions.

For example, diabetes and high blood pressure can trigger serious foot conditions, including poor circulation and nerve damage (diabetic neuropathy). Our team customizes a treatment plan to treat these conditions and minimize other health risks.

  • Many patients in long-term care facilities have other conditions (comorbidities). Our care plans require close coordination with other healthcare providers, such as discussing potential medications, to prevent adverse reactions. We work with other specialists to customize a plan for each patient’s needs, so our treatments work together in harmony with the patient’s body.

  • Foot conditions can create a chain reaction that impacts a patient’s health, safety and quality of life. For example, ingrown toenails and fungal nails can make it uncomfortable to wear shoes, so patients can’t walk or attend therapy. Poor circulation in diabetic patients can also lead to losing a limb.

Preventive care and timely treatment helps keep conditions from getting worse. We schedule recurring appointments, so each patient receives regular care, and we can adjust the treatment plan for residents who need more frequent attention.
