MARTIN A. GROSSMAN, MD Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Grossman graduated from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx and did his residency program in Internal Medicine at Long Island Jewish Hospital in New Hyde Park, Long Island.  He was involved in his own solo office-based primary care practice with hospital and nursing home admitting privileges for 15 years.  While at Peninsula Hospital, he was appointed Chairman of the Department of Medicine and was subsequently involved in building and running an Inpatient Hospice Unit and a palliative care program at the hospital.  At that time in addition to his board certification in Internal Medicine, he became board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.  Upon the hospital’s closure due to financial issues, he was appointed Chief of Palliative Medicine and Associate Internal Medicine Program Director at Northwell Forest Hills Hospital.  It was during that time that he realized his professional passion was in hospice and palliative medicine.  He closed his office-based practice to devote full time to hospice and palliative medicine.  He  subsequently started palliative care programs in multiple nursing homes in Queens in an effort to improve care and decrease hospital readmissions.  He was also appointed Senior Medical Director for MJHS Hospice and initiated a 16 bed inpatient hospice unit in the Menorah Nursing Home in Brooklyn, and also worked to improve the clinical complexity rendered at the Inpatient Hospice Unit at the Silvercrest Nursing Home in Queens.  He also worked with MJHS on Business Development at both NYP Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn and NYPQ in Queens to strengthen their palliative care programs and manage the Inpatient Hospice Units in those hospitals.  He assisted MJHS with community outreach and educational programs for lay people, medical professionals as well as clergy of various denominations.  In January of 2019 he was appointed Chief Medical Officer of an expanding nursing home group with facilities in NY, NJ and FL.  He successfully guided the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic and was instrumental in significant reductions in hospitalizations and well as reductions in psychotropic medication utilization across the NY, NJ and FL facilities with significant improvement in CMS quality metrics.  He initiated a palliative care program in the 5 Citadel NY nursing homes.  He was also successful in fostering an environment of clinical excellence with cost containment through skilled leadership and practitioner education.  He implemented a medication formulary where permitted by statute in NJ and in FL and successfully saved the organization millions of dollars annually in pharmacy costs while maintaining a high level of clinical excellence.  Through improvements  in the CMS 5-star quality ratings throughout the network, he was able to strengthen relationships with the surrounding hospitals in NY, NJ and FL.  Subsequent to that role, he works as a compliance officer for a multi-state interventional radiology practice, as well as a medical director of a hospice program.

On a personal side, Dr. Grossman is married with 4 adult children and have several grandchildren.  He is passionate about learning and teaching and using knowledge and compassion to assist people in their journey through the spiritual and the physical difficulties of life.
